Description

Uploaded these kinda fast. But I'll be starting school again pretty fast like it two days. This one has a real old picture to it. The weapon Shadow has is not the kind that he uses in the story. What he has is a some kind of Russian made weapon.

Anyways things get subtly worse for the fox, hedgehog, and man. It's a shorter chapter but I hope you like it.

I believe a redo is in order.

TWIN TAILS OF VENGEANCE

Chapter 9: Terrorists!

It was quite uncomfortable sitting one’s buttocks for five hours straight. But when you’re cramped in a cage that’s smaller then you are with a guard that looks like he could eviscerate you in a few seconds, there’s not much you can do.

Jacobson sat scrunched up in the cage quietly singing hymns to himself for comfort and to keep his mind busy. He finished The Doxology and was wondering what next to sing about. He knew trying to Convert this guard would get him nowhere fast. The other guards seemed to communicate with words but the ‘creature’ ordered to keep guard on Jacobson was not like those other gravediggers. It was no animal Jacobson had ever seen. Everything about it was abnormal. Its unnatural hairless body was a dead green. It had a long curved blade where paws should have been that were like built-in katanas with serrated edges. However like the other Gravediggers it still sported cybernetic alterations in random parts of the body. Modifications such as various blades designed for combat, mounted cannons/launchers, gun attachments, and others were common armaments for these guys. He didn’t know what this group was up too. But he knew they obviously weren’t equipped like this for teaching mobains knitting classes and what ever it was they were up to made him worry.

The monster stood stark still. It didn’t even seem to breathe.

Jacobson didn’t know what it was but it wasn’t any animal God had created. What ever this thing was it had to be a monster that was the only word that seemed to fit it. Just looking at it made him shiver. He tried to change position with his limited space.

A human locked in a cage by animals. Geez, this would make any animal right’s fanatic goggle with glee. Personally though he thought this unfair since he had never harmed any animals. Well he did kick a small chiauwawa dog once when he was little. But that was because it had stolen his candy bar and bit him on the foot making him bleed.

He remembered how mad he got and him just kicking it. He chuckled slightly to himself. Mean yes. But the dog probably deserved it, though in reality he liked dogs and animals in general.

“Man my knees hurt.” He tried to change his position and stick his feet out through the bars but then a cybernetic cheetah walked in. The monster faced the cyborg cheetah and immediately bowed very low.

“So that… thing answers to him.” Jacobson thought to himself.

“Bring him to master Hollow.” The cheetah commanded to the monster which turned to open the cage. Then he turned to face Jacobson. “My Liege has plans for you preacher.” He said grinning cruelly letting all his fangs show.

“Something tells me it’s not going to be a coffee and donut break.” Jacobson mumbled getting up and out of cage.

He stepped out and staggered from being cramped so long. He almost fell and expected to hear Feral laugh however the cheetah just spitefully watched. The creature however made sure he didn’t go anywhere.

“Move.” Was all the cheetah said motioning towards a door with his head.

Jacobson felt the creature force him along from behind. He moved towards the feline following him out of the room.

Tails sat with Shadow as they rode the Saint Maria towards the apartments through a cloudy overcast afternoon. The children were at the church Jacobson worked at so they wouldn’t be in danger. He felt like saying something but he wasn’t quite sure what there was to say. The note said that some of Feral’s top operatives were there. He wanted Feral himself to be there so he could kill him. But things can never be that easy can they?

As they rode along Tails looked at people standing in line waiting for the afternoon bus, at the end of the line he thought he saw a blue hedgehog with green eyes. “What?” Suddenly a car drove past the figure. It was only for a moment but when the car passed the hedgehog was gone. The fox shook his head. He must be dreaming.

“It can’t be…”

“Something wrong?” Shadow asked looking over his shoulder.

“No, just look for the old crappy apartment building in between the two newer ones.” Tails said to Shadow who was driving.

Eventually they saw it come into view it was indeed old. Probably dated back to the mid 1950s (assuming the their world Mobias using the same timeline as ours) judging by the looks of it. Tails thought to himself. Shadow turned down a street taking them into the slum section of the city. They didn’t see many people at all and by the time they neared the apartment there wasn’t anyone they could see.

“We’d better get off here.” Tails said. “The noise of the motor could attract their attention.”

“Alright.” Shadow said and slowed the bike down then parked it by an old dumpster behind house. This would conceal them from any one trying to spot them from the apartment.

Tails surveyed the area. The apartment loomed ahead of them. Pretty imposing for just an apartment he thought to himself. He felt someone touch his shoulder and he almost jumped. Spinning around to face the person he went for Dark Angel. But he found he was only facing a homeless tired middle aged woman holding her baby. She drew back when she saw Tails’ firearm.

He sighed and began turn back around. This place had him on edge.

“Excuse me,” The woman started.

“Sorry, but I don’t have any money for you.” Tails said.

“No, it’s not that. I don’t know why you came here but you should leave now. They say horrible things happen to people who come here. At night people have gone here and in the morning they’re found mutilated! They say it was done by a big animal with extremely long claws and a glowing red eye! Be careful!” Her baby began to cry and she turned away trying to comfort it.

“Erm thanks.” Tails said as she left. “gee that was encouraging.” He said to himself. Urban legends like those were only made to scare people to death when going out at night. Inside however he hoped she was wrong for her and her baby’s sake.

Tails watched Shadow checking the ammo magazine of his HK416 assault rifle as he slowly walked towards the apartment which was a block down. Tails swore Shadow kept pulling that thing out of nowhere as he ran to catch up with him.

“Heh, that was random.” Shadow chuckled.

“What?” Tails asked checking his both clips on his sidearms.

“That lady finding us.” Shadow responded.

Neither of them really knew what was in there. And neither had much a plan either except ‘shoot until everything is either dead or surrenders.’ The reason why anyone would want to build two new apartments on both sides of an old building in a slum area like that was beyond them.

The two walked towards the apartments. There was an over abundance of trash randomly scattered about and over flowing in trashcans in front of the apartment.

Tails still felt he didn’t’ exactly trust Shadow especially after the last couple of times he was with him. He tried to keep a good couple feet away from him. He wasn’t sure why he was suddenly more cautious all of a sudden but now he was. Even though it was summer time Tails realized he was suddenly cold. “Just the wind.” He told himself hoping it would make him feel better.

Shadow felt the wind brushing him with cold fingers. He wasn’t afraid, but he found himself feeling uneasy. He noticed Tails straying away from his side. Shadow didn’t know that much about body language but Tails was clearly uncomfortable. Shadow felt like opening up with a sly remark but refrained. Partly because he was beginning to feel apprehensive about this as well. It was only an apartment. But something just seemed out of place.

Black Raptor laid low on the top of one of the nearby apartments watching the two from a pair of high powered binoculars. A .338 Surgeon Remedy bolt action sniper rifle lay next to him. He wondered why they let their guard down, they where in plain sight for crying out loud.

He didn’t want to shoot but if he didn’t he’d be found out for sure.

“Rapter to base, we got two intruders coming, main entrance. You’ll have to handle them. My rifle’s jammed.” He lied.

So they had come after all…

>>>

Jacobson kept following the cheetah through the building. He wasn’t sure where he was except judging by the windows he passed he gathered that it was still in the city. He wondered if they were going to blindfold him as they led him around like villains always did in the movies. He wondered where Natasha was. They’d been separated and he wasn’t sure where she was. He hoped she stayed strong. He also began to wonder what they wanted from him. Eventually they came to the hallway where the tenants should be. It was a hallway instead of a stairwell like you would find in a normal apartment. It was strange though, this felt more like a hotel. There didn’t seem to be any power supplied to the apartment so there was only natural light from outside to light the halls. But it was enough.

The cheetah led him down to the end of the hall knocked on the door of the very last room to the right.

“Master, it’s Feral.”

“Feral? So that’s his name. Wonder who his master is.” Jacobson thought to himself.

“Acknowledged, but only the preacher may enter.” Came the voice from the room.

“Go in.” Said Feral harshly moving away from the door.

Jacobson approached the door and slowly opened it. He stepped inside the room not sure of what to expect.

;Please close the door.” The master person said. Jacobson obeyed closing it quietly.

“At least the master says please.” Jacobson thought to himself.

He looked around the dark and dirty room and noticed it was empty except for the boarded up window, a dirty unmade bed, nightstand by the bed, and a closet. The room was dark from the board hindering the light’s entrance into the room. But there was still enough to see by.

There indeed was a figure standing by the bed and window.

“Who are you, and why did you capture me?” Jacobson asked.

“I will be the one asking the questions for now.” The cloak clad figure said. “You had contact with Tails the fox about 48 hours ago right? Tails is in this city is he not?”

“What make you think I’ll answer to terrorists?” Jacobson said defiantly.

“What makes you think we are such?” The figure asked.

“Well, first of all you’re all armed to the teeth literally. And I don’t think I’m acting in an action movie and someone forgot to tell me now am I? Secondly why did you have to kidnap me just to ask who I associated with last? Third of all, why all the secrecy?”

“True yes. But terrorism seems like such a…nasty way of putting it.”

“So you ARE terrorists?”

“I guess yes you could put it that way.”

“Okay then I won’t answer you.” Jacobson said folding his arms in defiance.

“Very well then,” The figure said sounding angry. “But tell me Man of God,” he said finally turning to face Jacobson. “Do you fear death? Do you fear having your life taken from you?”

“Death is inevitable; but when I die I know I will be reunited with all my friends and family and the Lord in Glory. I don’t want to die yet, there’s things I still need to do. But I’m not afraid to die.” Jacobson replied with absolute assurance.

“Really? Is that so? What a sad disillusionment.”

“You’re wrong. If you would just put your pride away and open your heart and eyes you would understand.”

“Enough!!” He whirled around firing a hefty revolver.

>>>

Tails guessed he would have to trust Shadow for now. It wasn’t like he thought Shadow would shoot him in the back or anything, hopefully. He was probably still obsessing over the emeralds though. But after this over Tails didn’t give a darn about the jewels, Shadow could have them if he wanted. He still felt uncomfortable though. Just some growing sense of dread. He couldn’t get rid of it.

Tails stopped and watched Shadow go in first. He seemed completely unafraid. Tails felt a pang of envy and anger. Shadow and Sonic the bravest heroes ever. He thought angrily to himself.

Shadow also felt a growing sense of dread. He didn’t like this one bit anymore. He looked over his shoulder to make sure Tails was still with him. He could see Tails slowly half heartedly catching up. He didn’t say anything, but in his heart Shadow wished Tails would stop trying to avoid him. Trying to push the thought out he slowly moved forward now inside the apartment.

They went in through the door entering a dark entrance hall. Shadow walked a couple feet it in and stopped.

Suddenly the mark of the Black Arms, the cursed marking on his back began to burn. He tried not to yell but did anyways as he put his hand on his back he could feel the heat from the mark.

“Shadow?” Came Tails’ voice carrying a hint of growing concern. “are you okay?”

“It’s nothing!” Shadow tried to say through gritted teeth. Shadow knew otherwise especially when he saw a shape in front of him and he knew it was no animal, but it wasn’t Gravedigger either. He tried to see it better. It began to come towards them. He still couldn’t see it that well. But he saw enough that he recognized what it was.

“No, It can’t be… No!” Shadow said.

The thing came closer and closer until it was only a few feet away from Shadow.

“I’ve come for you my maassster.” The thing said. It wasn’t in words it was speaking inside Shadow’s head. “Iiii await your oooverwhelming of this traitorouss rat Maasssterrr Doom.”

“Nooo!!!” Shadow screamed and quickly raised the HK416 spraying the black arms alien with the assault rifle’s lethal volley of killer rounds.

The alien screeched and fell to the ground and thrashed around in a spray of repulsive green blood. Shadow yelled as he continued to spam it with bullets until the clip was empty. Breathing heavily he looked down at the dead creature that was lying in a growing sordid green puddle. His fears had just been confirmed…

>>>

The high powered revolver’s round tore through Jacobson’s shoulder and proceeded to punch right through the old wooden door. Jacobson cried out and gripped his shoulder as blood oozed out from in between his fingers.

“What do you say now praying man?”

“Ahh- I say anyone with a gun can look tough. But a real man doesn’t need anything to get his point across.” Jacobson said through teeth gritted in pain.

Hollow pulled the hammer back on the gun chambering the next round with a very audible click. “I’ll ask one more time old man. Where is Tails the fox?!”

“I already told you that I don’t answer to terrorists. And no matter how many times you shoot it’s not going to convince me anymore. Why are you so obsessed with finding him anyways?”

“Let’s just say we’re old friend old from the good old days. Except heh, I looked a little different.” He reached behind him and tore a board off the window letting some light into the room revealing just a little more off himself. But that was enough.

“Who – what are you?!” Jacobson asked taken aback.

>>>

Shadow had emptied the entire clip into the creature and was now breathing heavily. “Did you see that?” Shadow gasped as he watched the alien’s blood pool under it.

“See what?!” Tails said rather annoyed at being startled by the gunfire.

“What?”

“You randomly shot up the ground!”

Shadow looked at him surprised then looked back ate the ground. There was nothing except a bunch of smoking bullet holes.

“See? There was nothing there Shadow! What’s wrong with you?”
